Universal Studios Fire
Earlier in the day, Universal Studios caught fire and was subject to some fairly hefty damage. However, parts of the park remain open and the MTV awards will go on. What surprised me the most is what people said about the fire….
I over heard a few people talking about the fire and one person was sure that the fire was intentionally set by Universal Studios. His reasoning was that the park is old and that the insurance money would be used to make the park bigger and better. However, his point has some flaws in it.
Television companies use some of the sets at Universal Studios to produce their movies — which in turn gives profit to Universal Studios. Why would they intentionally light fire to such vital areas of their lot (sets, film vaults etc).
“Fortunately, nothing irreplaceable was lost,” Meyer said. “The video library was affected and damaged, but our main vault of our motion picture negatives was not.”
The set of “The Changeling,” a film recently directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Angelina Jolie, was “completely destroyed,” Meyer said.
Another area called “Courthouse Square” also was destroyed, Meyer said. Numerous movies have been shot in that area, including several scenes of the 1985 hit “Back to the Future,” Meyer said.

There is no doubt in my mind that this fire was an accident. Whether it was an accident caused by an employee, or electrical wiring — no one knows yet. That is up to the fire marshal to determine.
