Transportation Security Administration Operations

When we fly on an airplane, we usually think that there are two pilots and a hanful of flight attendants looking after us. While that is true — there are many more people who are looking after your safety. There are many agencies that are devoted to travel safety. There is the FAA, NORAD, Air Traffic Control Centers, Control Towers, Airport staff and the TSA.

“Have you ever wondered what happens when someone on the No-Fly List attempts to board an aircraft, when a plane is diverted or an aircraft loses communications with the ground? While each situation is different and requires a distinct response, TSA’s operations center, also called the Freedom Center, is fully involved in all scenarios.

Since 2003, this operations center has served as TSA’s coordination center during security incidents and operations. Every facet of TSA operations has a presence. Decisions are made and transmitted to the field in real time. TSA’s Office of Intelligence can notify the Freedom Center about developing situations. The Federal Air Marshal Service Mission Operations Center can be alerted and provide valuable feedback and guidance. Decisions can be made and transmitted to the field in real time.” (Link)

When someone says TSA, you instantly think ‘those people at the security checkpoints’. However, the Transportation Security Administration is much more than that. The TSA is responsible for your safety. They work together with all of the other agencies to deal with every problem that occurs in an airport and up in the air. Good Morning America takes us behind the scenes and shows us the TSA Operations Center, click here to see the video.

One thing is for sure — the people who work for the TSA do a great job at keeping us safe. Although there may be times when you do not like how they are causing you a delay — remember that they are doing it for our protection.
