NASA Delays Atlantis Again

Last month NASA delayed the launch of the space shuttle Atlantis. Once again, NASA has delayed the launch - this time until February it seems. I for one, am all for these delays. I think that space travel and exploration is very important, because one day we might need to relocate to a new planet. However, we need to be doing it in the safest way possible. This means that we need to make sure those going up into space are safe before they send them. It is always safe to go on the side of caution. If something is thought to be broken, fix it first.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — NASA on Thursday delayed the flight of space shuttle Atlantis until late January or, more likely, February to replace a suspect connector in the fuel tank.

The connector is believed to be responsible for back-to-back launch postponements last month.

Deputy shuttle program manager John Shannon said the mission to the international space station is off until at least Jan. 24. (Link)

Nasa is always scrutinized about their decisions. The senate is debating about cutting NASA funding and giving it to education. However that is a bad idea, because exploration is education! NASA has made the right decision to delay the launch. Any more mistakes by NASA and we could see their funding get cut, and the exploration program delayed indefinately.
