Free Software for Thought

Submitted by Glenn

Any of you with whom I ever discuss software know I am an avid fan of free or open source software. I continue to be increasingly impressed with the amount and quality of these free programs. Best of all, if obtained from respected sources who scan for malware before listing and/or reviewing these offerings, you don’t have to worry about inviting malicious software onto your system. I have never had a malware problem in years of evaluating free or open source programs from respected sources.

I don’t know how I have failed to run across the link provided above up to now, but I have. I’ve only read through the first 46 categories (at the bottom of the page it continues on to their top 300 free programs). They also have a monthly newsletter to which I will definitely subscribe. What I like is the reviewer’s synopsis of the programs, and a quick summary of differences among available programs in each category. With the knowledge I do have of the programs in the first 46 that I use, for the most part the
reviewer seems to be on target with their comments, and those comments can be valuable when looking for a program to fill a particular need.

You might want to investigate this for yourself if you are interested in free or open source software.
