Activists Scale New York Times Building
NEW YORK (WABC) — A midtown Manhattan skyscraper that is home to The New York Times became the site of twin daredevil stunts Thursday, with two men scaling the 52-story office tower just hours apart.
What was interesting about these climbers, is that they did it to make a point. The first climber scaled a banner down the building that said “global warming kills more people than 9/11 every week”. However, he was arrested upon his arrival at the top of the building.
The second climber was thought to be a copycat, and was taken the the hospital for an evaluation, after also being arrested. He did not have a banner, like the first climber, however he wore a shirt supporting the organization “Malaria No More”.
The New York Times made it a point to note that their building is very environmental friendly.
“We wanted to minimize our environmental footprint.” She said the ceramic slats save energy by reducing the amount of heat and light entering the building, where the Times moved last year.

Oddly enough, it was these slats that allowed the climbers to ascend to the top of the building.
