NASA: Everything is A-OK

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - A bent radiator hose in Atlantis’ payload bay should not delay next week’s space shuttle launch, NASA said Friday.

The problem is with just one of the shuttle’s four braided metal radiator hoses that carry Freon to dispel heat generated by shuttle equipment.

A technician will use a long pole with a hook to guide the hose into its retraction box when the payload bay doors are closed Sunday night. If that goes well, as everyone expects, liftoff will remain on track for Thursday afternoon, said NASA spokeswoman Candrea Thomas. (Link)

No wonder NASA’s shuttle program is in jeopardy.  They continue to make poor decisions that not only compromise the safety of the spacecraft but the lives of those flying on board.  NASA should have learned by now that if there is a problem, they need to delay launch until the problem is completely fixed — no exceptions.

The safety of the astronauts should be the number one priority in any shuttle mission — not launching on time.  These poor decisions do not happen with one person.  It is a series of poor decisions made by the top people at NASA that cause these problems.

You would think that someone at NASA would have the thought “this is a bad idea, maybe we should delay the launch”.
