Microsoft and Yahoo: Beginning of Tough Love
It began with a bear hug letter from Microsoft. And now, in April, the rhetoric has increased and Steve Ballmer has set a deadline:
“…The April 5 letter signed by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer says Microsoft will take its case directly to Yahoo shareholders and work to elect a new slate of directors if the board doesn’t respond by the deadline.”

It might be noted that the letter is April 5, 2008 - a Saturday. Someone at Microsoft knows the merger and acquisitions theory well. It is not an accident that this letter is sent on the weekend and that the story breaks on a Saturday. It is intended to create constant pressure. Have a nice weekend, Jerry Yang.
