The Blogging Profession

Blogging seems to be the new ‘thing’ for this generation.  It lets people get their opinions out — and it the backbone of this website.  Both Catherine and myself do this mostly for fun.  We are happy if the hosting bills get paid, and that people actually read the website.  We are by no means hardcore bloggers

There are people out in the world who make a living off of blogging…

Blogging has been lucrative for some, but those on the lower rungs of the business can earn as little as $10 a post, and in some cases are paid on a sliding bonus scale that rewards success with a demand for even more work.

There are growing legions of online chroniclers, reporting on and reflecting about sports, politics, business, celebrities and every other conceivable niche. Some write for fun, but thousands write for Web publishers - as employees or as contractors - or have started their own online media outlets with profit in mind. (Link)

In order to be one of the top bloggers — you have to be on top of the ball.  If the news you are not presenting is not first then there is a big problem.  If you are second to report the news, you don’t make Digg or other similar websites — and you are simply ’some other dude’ posting about the news.

The world of blogging can be both fun and difficult.  There are tons of different types of bloggers, but to be one of the best you need to sacrifice a good chunk of the so called ‘normal’ life.
