Student Death Caught on Cell Phone
OLATHE, Kan. - A Kansas teen was charged with involuntary manslaughter Wednesday in the death of a 16-year-old schoolmate who collapsed after a fight that was captured on a bystander’s cell phone.Dustin Howard, 16, of Gardner, Kan., is accused of unintentionally killing Dakota DeRemus while committing battery. It is very interesting to see what technology can do for us in todays world. The statement that ‘you are always being watched’ is starting to become more and more of a reality. It is odd to think that any action you might partake in could be recorded. Although in this situation it is good that the fight was recorded. The recording will probably be key evidence in what will convict the student.
This story is a perfect example of the statement “every action has a consequence”. Always think twice before you act. In this case, if either student would have stopped to think about the problem — two lives would have been saved.
