Toshiba Beats Apple
When Apple released the MacBook Air a few months ago, it was the lightest computer on the market. Until now, that has been the case. Toshiba has remodeled it’s Portege laptop computer to beat the Apple MacBook Air.
It’s almost inconceivable that a laptop can sport a 12-inch screen and a full-size keyboard and yet weigh only 1.7 pounds (yeah, you read that right). Of course, several adjustments had to be made over the previous iteration of the Portégé R500 to get to this astonishing weight. (Yahoo News)
The Portege originally had an optical drive, which is what made it weight more than the MacBook Air. After ditching the optical drive, the Portege was able to become the newest and lightest laptop on the market. The Portege runs for $2,600 USD and is not as sturdy as the MacBook Air. Whether or not Toshiba has a ‘virtual CD Rom drive’ to help install things on the system is unknown.
