OMAHA, Neb. — Sarpy County deputies said they arrested a woman whose blood-alcohol level registered higher than five times the legal limit for drivers.Deputies arrested Denise Thomson, 25, of Elkhorn, after they received a number of calls about an impaired driver on Interstate 80 Thursday afternoon. I cannot believe that this woman was able to drive with so much alcohol in her system. What is even more shocking is that the woman decided that she should drive her car with her child.
The University of Texas reported that a BAC of 0.35 percent “is similar to the physical effects of surgical anesthesia. You may stop breathing. A BAC (of) 0.40 to 0.50 percent (means) you are probably in a coma. The nerve centers controlling your heartbeat and respiration are slowing down, and it’s a miracle if you survive.”
It is more than a miracle that no one was hurt during this incident. Things could have been much worse.
