The Fast Food Fad

Fast food is part of almost every American’s life. While we try to pick the ‘healthier’ of two items when we eat at these restaurants — the healthy option is not always what we expect.

For example, between a McDonalds Quarter Pounder without cheese and a Premium Chicken Sandwich — one would think that the chicken sandwich is the better pick. In reality, the quarter pounder without cheese has less calories. This is because the chicken sandwich is loaded with tons of mayonnaise and bacon.

Another example, between the Arby’s supreme roast beef sandwich and the market fresh turkey sandwich — one would think that the market fresh sandwich is the better choice. Our mind tells us that something on whole wheat bread is naturally better for us. However, the sandwich has almost double the calories, due to mayonnaise, Italian dressing and cheese.

When buying fast food, look out for the condiments, as they are the part of the meal that ups the calories. Generally, when going for fast food, it is safe to assume that the smaller the better.
