Apple was the first company to come out with a massively marketed MP3 player that drew the attention of the public.  Over the years, Apple has come out with many different versions — each improving on the past model.  But what about the competitors?

Other companies have attempted to come out with a MP3 player that matches the iPod, however no one has come close.  Microsoft came out with the Zune, which had some potential but for the most part failed miserably.  Apple counteracted the Zune with the iPod Touch - which had a bigger screen and featured a touch screen.

I do not think that any company will be able to overcome Apple’s hold on the MP3 player market.  Apple has done what Microsoft did with the Operating System.  They have created a monopoly for their product.
