Using Those Frequent Flier Points
At one time, frequent fliers with an airlines were rewarded for their customer loyalty. It seems that those days may be receding and becoming a fond memory:
“…Recently, American Airlines announced new and increased fees for those who want to upgrade economy seats using frequent-flier miles. Beginning Oct. 1, passengers traveling within North America and Central America will have to shell out $50 in addition to 15,000 earned miles. Transcontinental passengers will see their one-way fees jump from $300 to $350.”

Many people save those frequent flier points and plan on some future excursion. Unfortunately, the value of those accumulated points is decreasing - and in some cases, they might vanish completely. People in the travel industry are recommending that those saved frequent flier points be used soon, while they retain some value.
