Family imprisons woman for 18 years
ROME, Italy (AP) — Police say a family in southern Italy kept a woman locked in a room in their house for 18 years because they were angry she was pregnant out of wedlock.
Police say they freed the woman, now 47, on Friday in Santa Maria Capua Vetere. The ANSA news agency said she was taken to hospital for psychiatric care.

When I saw the title of the article, I thought it would be the other way around. I thought that perhaps the woman had done something bad and her family was the reason that she was detailed by the police. However, it seems I was incorrect. The family actually imprisoned the woman for 18 years, because they were upset with her actions. This is such a horrible act — and it shows that her family does not actually care for her.
Even worse, the child is not even with the mother. He is now 17 years old and knew nothing about his mother. I hope that the family goes to jail for a long time — the mother of the woman who was imprisoned is currently under house arrest. In my opinion she should go to jail with the rest of the family, despite her age.
