Apple iPhone Firmware Hack
Until now, there was no way to use an Apple iPhone on a cell phone network different from AT&T. Last week, Apple released the SDK for the iPhone, allowing people to develop applications for the iPhone and iPod touch. With this update — there are rumors that the iPhone as been hacked, allowing users to use the phone on any network and run any application.
The claimed “true unlock” includes installing official and unofficial, ‘unsigned’ applications and patches, a blog post on Gizmodo said. The development team told the website that Apple will find it “extremely hard to close this new hole”. (Link)
While this is good for the users, it is bad news for Apple and AT&T. Apple will make more money, but AT&T will lose a lot of money if users can take the iPhone to another network. I have a feeling that Apple will respond by saying that this hack will void the warranty of the phone.
