Saying “Good Bye” to a Canine Pal

It is the worse day of dog ownership. It is the day that one must say ‘good bye’ be a cherished friend. That dog is a family member and I know that that day makes me physically ill. Ever since a young age, that dreadful day makes my digestive system do an actual flip and it happens every time. Nevertheless, it is the one of the costs of dog ownership.

To me, the lesson is that the time with the dog is so short. - Nancy Leson, a food writer for the Seattle Times, had to say ‘good bye’ recently to her Maia. Ms Leson writes about it:

“…But her smiles have been fewer and fewer over the past months as she struggled with old age, lost so much muscle-tone she could hardly hold up her hindquarters and suffered from incontinence. But the one thing she never lost was her appetite. So, last week, we did what we’ve been dreading having to do: we called our friend the vet, who was kind enough to come over on Saturday to put her out of her misery. But first, I made her dinner.”

It is a private family moment. Ms Leson writes beautifully about Maia. There be lessons and reminders. Today is important.
