A Problem for the Next President
The White House has issued staggering economic figures. The government has a unprecedented federal budget deficit:
“… The White House is tipped to lift its deficit forecast for 2009 to $490bn (£246bn) up from $407bn.
The budget deficit measures how much more the government is spending than it is raising through taxes.”

Just as a point of perspective, in 2001 when President Bush began his first term in office, the budget was a surplus of $128 billion. As Senator Everett Dirksen once said, “A billion dollars here and a billion dollars there - pretty soon you’re talking about a lot of money”.
Potential foreign enemies of the United States would be glad to help leverage that debt.
